UX/UI Lead (all genders) - NOWA: Innovation Hub WKW
We are a small, entrepreneurial in-house startup with the mission to turn business services into digital products, leveraging modern cloud and AI capabilities. Backed by an established organization, we combine startup agility with corporate reach, data, and infrastructure.
The role:
As our UX/UI Design Lead, you are the champion for the user within our in-house startup. You don't just "make things look good"; you define the design vision, establish and continuously evolve our design, and ensure that our digital products deliver a seamless, high-impact experience.
You will work as a peer to the Dev Lead and Product Owner, acting as a strategic partner who translates business goals into intuitive user journeys and scalable interface standards.
Your first focus will be WKW.now, our AI-powered digital assistant for entrepreneurs and NOWA's first product. The MVP is currently in development, combining conversational AI with structured workflows and personalized services.
Your responsibilities:
- Own and evolve our design system; ensure it remains a "living" library that empowers the Development Lead and external devs to build at speed.
- Lead the design of complex, multi-step user flows, specifically focusing on how AI and LLM outputs are presented and interacted with.
- Optimize the handoff process between design and development, ensuring our frontend accurately reflects the high standards of our design system.
- Use our existing strategy as a baseline to run usability tests and research, identifying where the current system needs to be adapted for new business requirements.
- Act as a strategic peer to the Tech Lead and PO, using your leading mindset to advocate for design-driven product decisions during high-level planning.
- Conduct regular design reviews of implemented features to ensure they meet the established visual and functional standards.
What you should bring:
- Experience: At least 4 years of professional experience in UX/UI Design with a proven track record of both maintaining & evolving existing design systems and designing new out-of-the-box features where no patterns exist yet.
- Leading Mindset: You proactively create structure in ongoing projects and take full ownership of new feature concepts, driving consistency across the product and ensuring a refined, high-quality finish.
- Systems Thinking: Strong ability to think in components and patterns, with a focus on maintainability and scalability across web and mobile.
- Research Driven: Comfortable using data and user feedback to challenge and refine even the "established" parts of a design strategy when necessary.
- Design Expertise: Profound knowledge of design tools such as Figma (preferred), Adobe XD, or Sketch. Experience with Adobe Creative Cloud (specifically Illustrator) is a plus. A strong eye for visual design, including color palettes, typography, and layout.
- Work Style: Excellent English skills (German is a plus), as well as a structured, creative, and independent way of working with a strong "Leading Mindset."
